Joplin, Missouri debris clean-up, a set on Flickr.I spent my Memorial Day driving to and from Joplin in order to help with the tornado cleanup efforts. Despite feeling like I got beat up this morning, and having a terrible sunburn, I’m feeling pretty happy about “doing something good,” or whatever. The houses we worked on were small, mid-century homes in what appeared to have been a pretty lower-middle class block. The cleanup involved placing debris into various stacks at the curb: construction materials, hazardous waste, clothing, brush and personal effects. I found a small silver ring at one point, which I hope finds its way back to its owner.
