Continuing the classical Asian music train of thought, I’ve found this style of music mind-blowing since I first encountered it in college. In terms of notes and harmony, Gagaku is fairly primitive and repetitive, but it plays with dynamics so compellingly that the result is simultaneously calming, haunting and frightening.
